Day 1

Welcome to Torres del Paine National Park

  • Activity Overview: Driving and optional hiking
  • Activity Level: Easy to moderate
  • Activity Length: 5 hour drive time

Today transfer from El Calafate, Argentina to Torres del Paine, Chile. This overland transfer takes about 5 hours.

Upon arrival at Patagonia Camp enjoy lunch and a briefing about the many activities you can choose to partake in during your stay.

If timing and interests allow, you may opt to enjoy a hike to Los Azules viewpoint. This easy two hour hike is an excellent introduction to the region's landscapes and scenery, with views of the Macizo Paine, the Cerro Tenerife, and the many shades of blue of Porteno Lake and Lake Bull. Other options are available as per your preference.

Day 2

Base Torres Trek

  • Activity Overview: Hiking
  • Activity Level: Moderate to Challenging
  • Activity Length: 8 hours; 13 miles

If you are up for a challenge, today you may choose to do the Base Torres Trek. This famous, but demanding hike takes you across the Ascensio River and up to the Paso del Viento Pass, allowing panoramic views of your surroundings. From here descend to the Refugio El Chileno shelter for a rest before continuning on. You'll find yourself in a pre-Andean scrubland bioclimate, but this quickly changes as you climb higher, through ancient lenga tree forests until you reach the Torres Glacier moraine. Continue upwards to the Base of Towers viewpoint, your goal for today's challenging trek.

Should you wish to partake in an easier hike, Patagonia Camp has a variety of options from which to choose.

Day 3

French Valley Hiking

  • Activity Overview: Hiking
  • Activity Level: Moderate to Challenging
  • Activity Length: 7 hours; 11 miles

Today you may opt to hike one of the three main attractions of the W hiking circuit: the French Valley Hike. This hike begins at Pudeto Pier, where you take the catamaran across the turquoise waters of Lake Pehoe to the slopes of Paine Grande Hill. Make your way to Italian camp before crossing the moraine of an old glacier in the middle of a wooded valley until reaching the scenic French viewpoint.

The catamaran is at an additional cost and the catamaran crossing of Lake Pehoe is weather dependent.

Day 4

Fly to Santiago

  • Activity Overview: Overland transfer & flight
  • Activity Length: Drive time: 3.5 hrs; Fly time: 3.5 hrs

This morning bid Torres del Paine National Park good-bye as you catch a shuttle to Punta Arenas airport for your flight to Santiago, Chile. Once you've arrived at the Santiago Airport, a Boundless Journeys representative will be waiting for you to transfer you to your accommodation for this evening.

Adios, Chile! Transfer to Santiago airport to catch your international departure flight home, or choose to extend your stay in Santiago and explore this vibrant city independently.

Accommodations are as outlined in the itinerary, although we reserve the right to change these or the order visited should the need arise.

SINGLE SUPPLEMENT: Accommodations are based on double occupancy. A single supplement is paid by participants who specifically request single accommodations, subject to availability.

Single Supplement for Scheduled Group Departures. If you reserve at least 120 days prior to departure, you may be eligible for a reduced or free single supplement. This is generally limited to the first one or two solo travelers to reserve, and the reduction is outlined in the pricing for each trip. Free or reduced single supplements are not combinable with other offers or promotions.

If you are traveling alone and wish to share accommodations, we will try to match you with a roommate of the same gender. If you reserve at least 120 days ahead and request a roommate but one is not available, you will receive a $500 reduction from the standard single supplement (unless otherwise noted in the detailed itinerary for your specific trip).

Single Supplement for Custom Tours. Custom Tour prices are generally based on two or more participants; therefore, single supplements for “solo” Custom Tours will vary and are available upon request.

What To Expect

Physical Activity

Boundless Journeys trips are designed for energetic and flexible individuals who like to be active and have a spirit of adventure and a positive attitude. This extension is rated 2, easy to moderate, on a scale of 1-5 (with 5 being the most strenuous). The walks and hikes on this trip are easy to moderate.

Meeting Point

At the conclusion of your Argentina: Patagonia Hiking Journey, you will be met at your hotel in El Calafate, Argentina and transferred to Torres del Paine National Park, Chile.

Departure Point

Your extension concludes in Santiago, Chile. On your final day of the extension, you will be transferred from your hotel in Santiago to the Santiago Airport (SCL) in time for your departure flight home.

Travel Arrangements

This itinerary is designed to be a post-tour extension after your Argentina: Patagonia Hiking Journey. We provide overland transportation from the conclusion of your Argentina hiking tour in El Calafate, Argentina to Torres del Paine National Park, Chile.

At the conclusion of your Torres del Paine Extension, we provide your overland transfer from Torres del Paine National Park to Punta Arenas airport (PUQ). We also arrange your flight from Punta Arenas to Santiago, as well both of your airport transfers in Santiago.

Weather

During the Southern Hemisphere summer, temperature range from the low-60s during the day to mid-40s in the evening. Temperatures and weather vary from one part of the park to another due to various factors such as elevation and geography. Rain is possible at any time, and like in other parts of Patagonia, it is often windy. Dressing in layers will make all the difference to your comfort.
